About

Liv Trent

You’re in your family kitchen and you know where all the family cook books are. Each book is loved in different ways and it shows: cracked bindings, sticky pages, crispy waterlogged edges.  Each time you approach this collection of edible words there is always one that catches your eye. The one that may not be used as much, but is full of intimate memories all tightly hand written in an almost illegible cursive.

If you’re anything like me this collection has been combed through 100 times over, but isn’t nearly used as much as it should be.

That’s where I come in; my name is Liv Trent. My goal is to cook through all of those handwritten family recipes that my grandmothers left behind. Just to let you know – I am no expert. I am a 25 year old pharmacist that got this idea when I decided to re-do my mom’s collection of family recipes for Mother’s Day.

So why read any of this? Honestly not sure. It’s obviously your choice, but for me, it would be for the endeavor that I am to embark on. I am a true believer that food is more than just what your body needs to keep functioning on this earth. Food is my love language. So to be able to interact with my ancestors through their recipes is something truly special. There will be ups and downs, (as I am developing skills to read my grandmother’s tight cursive, and to get over the fact that she never used actual measurements 🙂 , but all in all I’m hoping to get better as a cook, and hopefully not cause my grandmothers’ to roll in their graves. Interested? Feel free to follow and sign up for my email list! I’ll be giving updates on what I learn and tips on how to decipher those old family recipes 🙂

My overall goal is to get us all feeling closer to our family. For me personally, I didn’t know either of my grandmothers and in my own mind every recipe I do brings them closer to me. I’d like to think they’d keep the kitchen light on for me, and I want to do the same for them.
