Swedish Cabbage Rolls

My goodness how long has it been now?? Don’t answer that, I know it has been a hot minute since my last post. Lots and lots has happened and I will be giving you all the dirty details but for now lets focus on the important stuff . . . food. Now I know that as my first post back this bad boy probably does not excite most of you however, I wanted to try something different and new that maybe most of us have not tried. So Cabbage Rolls it is!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of ground meat (I used venison)
  • 1 onion chopped finely
  • 1 Cup of cooked rice
  • 12 Cabbage Leaves
  • 1 Cup of Tomato sauce
  • 1/4 Cup of milk
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 tsp of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions:

  1. Bring to a boil a large pot of water and boil your cabbage leaves for 3 minutes or until loose/weepy drain and set aside
  2. Brown your ground meat with onion in a large skillet. Drain excess liquid and then mix in rice, salt, pepper, milk and egg.
  3. Begin wrapping by taking 1/4 Cup of meat mixture and placing it in the center of a cabbage leaf. Then fold in the sides and roll up the ends and place in a crock pot.
  4. Mix together tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce and pour over cabbage rolls in the crock pot.
  5. Turn crock pot on and cook for 3-4 hours on high or 7-9 hours on low.
  6. Once ready to serve, take a roll out, pour excess sauce over it and you are ready to eat!

Ok, so I’m not gonna lie Swedish Cabbage Rolls are not my thing. Maybe you all can help me out because with everything that went into this recipe I really assumed these puppies were going to be flavorful! Plus the whole time they looked so appetizing with how green and pretty they are. To me they came out a little plain, maybe next time I will have to add a bit more spice. If anyone has any suggestions I would LOVE to hear them! The whole point of this is to get better at cooking and I fully believe the best way to do that is learn from each other πŸ™‚ I’ll keep the light on in case you have any suggestions!
